Organizational Structure
Recruitment :
- GRP is a part of U.P. Police and hence separate recruitment is not made.
Functions :
- Maintains law & order at railway stations and in trains.
- controls vehicular / other traffic in station precincts.
- Prevention and detection of crime committed against passengers.
- Renders assistance to railway officers and travelling public.
- And other function as described in para 3 of UP GRP manual.

Steps taken for the facility of passengers :
- Mahila Help Desk and Police Booths are established at every railway station by police station or an outpost of GRP.
- Public Address system, with the help of Railways is put to use for the purpose of creating security awareness among the passengers.
- Mobile outposts established in some important trains for registration of cases on the spot.
- Teams to prevent jaharkhurani.
- Crack teams to prevent dacoity & loot.
- Anti-sabotage check to prevent incidents of explosions etc.
- To make passengers aware about the safety of their life and property, GRP escort personnel have been provided with pre-recorded Bluetooth speakers.
- Train passengers can call Emergency Number 112 for any police assistance.
Running Note on GRP UP
The entire railway network within the State of U.P. was carved out as a general Police District under Act III of 1888. UP boasts of a network covering more than 9,500 kms of railway track, 1,136 Railway Stations and 21 Railway Yards. More than 3,031 trains either pass through the State or originate here daily. Nearly 3 million passengers commute daily in the State.

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE OF RAILWAY POLICE
Railway Police in the state is under the administrative and functional control of ADG (Railways) UP. He is assisted by two IG’s and equal number of DIG’s and six sectional SPs.
For the sake of convenience Railway Police is divided into six sections each under the supervision of a SP rank officer. Sections are further subdivided into Circles each headed by a Dy.SP. In total there are 13 Circles in UP.
There are 65 Police Stations and 43 Outposts. The sanctioned strength of GRP UP is of 75 Inspectors, 366 Sub-inspectors, 581 head –constables, 4029 Constables and 88 drivers.
